About Us

How we got our name

I’m pagan and proud, so when I was setting out I wanted a name that summed up me and what I wanted to create with my business.

The word ‘Beltane’ originates from the words “Bel”, the name of a Celtic God which means ‘the bright one’, and the Gaelic word ‘teine’ which means fire. Combined they mean ‘Bright Fire’, or ‘Goodly Fire’ and the festival of Beltane (April 30th – May 1st) was traditionally celebrated by the lighting of bonfires honouring the Sun and Bel, and intended to help encourage them in nurturing the emerging future harvest, and protecting the community. This time of year honours life and represents the peak of spring and the beginning of summer when fertility is abundant. It is a time of creation and potential, a time to honour nature and all it gives us, and who couldn't do with some abundance in their life right now?

Oh, and if you’re wondering about all the magpies, they’re my lucky bird, a reminder to follow my true calling in life and to be all that I can be, so I couldn’t resist adding them as my mascots.

My Story

Hi there, I’m Ruth from Beltane Gifts, a small arts and crafts shop based in Nuneaton, UK. Although I’ve been up and running now, as a business, for over 8 years, I’ve been crafting for most of my life and I’m a strong believer in the therapeutic power of creativity. Over the years I've been a photographer, a library assistant and even a counsellor. All during that time I was a crafter too, and now it's official!

I know how crafting has helped me and my mental wellbeing over the years and I wanted to be able to share those benefits with the people around me by keeping crafting simple and affordable. To this end I have tried to offer different ways for people to connect with crafts, be it in the form of workshops, kits or my new project, YouTube videos, under the name of “The Crafting Chez“.

The world has changed so much over the last few years, and a lot of us are facing very stressful and uncertain times, I think it’s more important now than ever to find some ‘you’ time to create and relax, and perhaps to try something new.

So join me, and lets create together.
